The DC Drought

The year was 1991; the last time DC area fans were able to call their professional home team champions. The Washington Redskins had won their third and final Superbowl defeating the Buffalo Bills under Joe Gibbs and the renowned “Hogs”.  Since then there has been an absolute drought that many even have dubbed The DC Curse. What exactly the curse is I have no idea. Perhaps a deal between the sports gods and a former president gone awry. Whatever the case may be, make no mistake it is in full effect. The Wizards/Bullets last and only NBA Title came in the 1977-78 season. The Nationals brought baseball back to DC in 2005 but seemingly left behind our chances to win a world series. The Capitals appear to be our only immediate hope but after spectacular regular seasons they routinely make early exits in the playoffs. Eventually, as all droughts do, this too will come to an end. The only question is when?

  1. At least we had DC United. Exactly. Lol... The Caps are def the best hope, but for some reason, I just can't bet on them yet. Their will to win doesn't match their talent. They're still young though... I think the Nats are on the upswing and could be that surprise team in baseball that wins the World Series sometime in the next 3-5 years, if/when Bryce Harper lives up to the hype. They have as good a young core as any in baseball... It won't be until 2014 that the Redskins can start mentioning the word championship. I love what they did the last couple drafts, now they just need to find and develop a franchise qb... I'm not even going to talk about the Wizards until they get a new coach.

  2. That is true we did have DC United...and the popularity of soccer is growing. Nats are in good shape for the future with Strasburg, Harper, Ramos, and company. Wizards - I completely agree, Flip Saunders has got to go. We have a young team and will need a coach that can provide discipline and development. That is not Flip Saunders at all. Redskins - need a qb, more depth on the O-Line, and maybe a offensive coordinator.
